Turn That Lie Upside Down

I believe that often when we are fed a lie about ourselves; the truth is found when we flip the lie upside down. I have battled many of these. Turning them over in my hands to find where the truth is. Here is one of them:

A nagging whisper saying that I don’t quite fit in anywhere. I have this friend and that friend. But neither are completely like me. I have this place and that place. But neither are quite home. I may find a half-fit but never the whole. Do you know what I found when I flipped that on its head?

“Is it that you don’t fit in anywhere, child? Or is it that I made you to relate to anyone? To find commonality in any group? Did I make you to comfortably sit in a circle of identical identity? Or to reach out to the overlooked other? Did I make you to be alone or to share life with many? Are you meant to feel completely at home here on this soil? Or are you made to long for the heavens from which you came? I didn’t make you for a narrow box because you were never meant for one. And the longing in your heart for a perfect-fit home? That will be met when your time here is done.”

You see the flip-side to that lie is an arrow pointing to my purpose! I may feel like I am not 100% any one fit but I am uniquely able to fit in many places. Why are we fed lies that make us feel alone? Because if you don’t feel like you belong there or there… you’ll just stay here. If you’re not completely them or they or those… you’ll just be alone. You will isolate. You will feel less than. You will feel unwanted and unqualified. And you can’t reach the world when you’ve shut yourself off from it. When you’ve made your own prison of doubt, you’ve successfully impeded your own purpose! You’re no longer a threat to the evil that created that lie.

Is this a lie in your life? Are there other lies that hold you back and tie you down? What happens when you flip them? What is the other side of that untruth? Is it exactly what can free you? Is it an arrow pointing to your purpose? I truly believe we are each given a special calling. When we knock down the deception meant to bar us from it, we are free to pursue our reason for being.
