Hello, you can call me Emmy. I live under Slash Pine between sea and swamp with my husband and three children.

Our roots are here. Hedged in by mangrove and palmetto. Sheltered by towering banyan and the hammock of live oak dripping with moss. Nestled between tannin tea rivers, cool limpid springs and warm Gulf waters. Where many flock to see aquamarine waves lapping quartz sand, but few have memorized the winding wetlands and prairies of coreopsis.

I plant our seeds from fall to spring. And teach our children year around. Our tiny kitchen churns out three meals a day with few shortcuts. We have muddy boots, sandy clothes, and more books than we have shelves to hold. You’ll find science experiments and art projects on our kitchen table, earthworms in our compost, and sourdough in our oven.

At sunrise, you may find me mucking stalls, gathering eggs or chatting with a goat. We call it Avodah, a family-run haven and homestead built on the principle of work as worship. Our aim is to provide comfort and wonderment through the care and cultivation of creation.

With every new season, I host homeschooling chats to help and encourage others to confidently home educate.

And in spare moments, I paint our life in words. Here you’ll find a few of those stories, bits of our daily life, homeschooling conversations and a few well-loved recipes. Thank you for following along.
